Wildfire and Invasive Species Management

Hui Aloha Kīholo's mission is to protect, perpetuate, and enhance the cultural and natural landscape of the Kīholo Bay Area through collaborative management and active community stewardship. Invasive trees and ungulate introduced to the island create a dynamic system that creates resident and visitor vulnerability to wildfire. These threats must be managed together as thick forest areas require fuels reduction while ensuring regrowth does not increase ladder fuel accumulation and more open areas require intensive ungulate management to facilitate native species recovery and provide food for community.
