Waikīkī Storm Water infrastructure Assessment

Large data gaps exist for the condition of the City and County of Honolulu’s (City) Waikīkī storm water infrastructure (e.g. storm drains pipes, culverts, catch basins). Majority of the infrastructure in Waikīkī has extended well past its intended lifespan; therefore, are vulnerable to serious failure and damages. Inspection and assessment of the storm water infrastructure in Waikīkī is necessary to determine the structural integrity of its assets in order for the City to plan its capital improvements to avoid system failures (e.g. sink holes, damaged roads) and flooding which will impact the public, businesses and visitors alike. Subsequent phases of work will include using the data to prioritize infrastructure repair and reconstruction projects. Data will be fed into a centralized asset management database as part of the SWQ’s efforts in developing a Comprehensive Storm Water Master Planning and Asset Management strategy that is currently in development.
