Support Phase 2 funding for Kahoʻolawe Restoration and Resilience Center
Support Phase 2 funding for the Kahoʻolawe Restoration and Resilience Center, including design, planning, and construction of an education center and comfort station at the KIRC Kīhei Boathouse.
The Center will serve as a hub for environmental restoration, cultural preservation, education, and community resilience. Through historical exhibits, archival collections, interactive GIS mapping, and educational programs, the Center will share the history of Kahoʻolawe, honor those who fought for its return to the people of Hawaiʻi, and highlight decades of restoration efforts.
The Center will also provide opportunities to integrate Native Hawaiian traditional knowledge with contemporary environmental restoration practices, connecting cultural practitioners, educators, students, and communities in the shared responsibility of mālama ʻāina.
By showcasing the lessons learned from Kahoʻolawe, the Center can serve as a model for restoring environmentally degraded landscapes throughout Hawaiʻi and inspire future generations of environmental and cultural stewards.
