SHARKastics coastal cleanup organization introduction
Maui-based SHARKastics (www.SHARKastics.org) has been spearheading community-based cleanup events at Ka'ehu on the 4th Sunday of every month since 2012, and marine debris continues to wash ashore from near and afar. Their Makamaka'ole Cleanups (twice a year since 2019) are only for adventurous volunteers since they have to hike down a steep goat "trail" to the coast and helicopter the debris out. Between these two sites, they've removed over 53 tons of marine debris, and they also weigh/sort/count each item to add to an ongoing database that provides important information to use in local and global legislation. The post describes the organization's activities without stating a specific request or question.
