Resiliency energy advice for Hawaii condo associations

Providing Resliency Energy Advice to Hawaii Condo associations

Hawaii has more than 1600 high rise buildings managed by Condo associations, constituting more than 167,000 units, most managed by (AOAO) Associations of Apartment Owners staffed by older owners with no in depth knowledge of how to manage buildings. The condo buildings average 50 years old and have numerous electrical, elevator, gas and water pipe and sanitation issues, and their managers struggle with maintenance of aging infrastructure. Because of climate change these buildings are under extreme stress and need resiliency advice on how to prepare for emergencies in terms of providing back up power and relief from flooding, fire and emergency evacuation issues. There are not enough consultants to provide advice on what these apartment owners need to do immediately, and many lack funding for these kinds of changes; approximately 40% of the owners are 65 or over. RENEW REBUILD HAWAII would like to team with experienced retired architects and engineers to provide low cost pro-active emergency advice through seminars to help condo associations and owners protect themselves against possible disaster.
