Pouhala Pond - Hydrating Habitats for Waterbirds
Pouhala Marsh is a 70-acre tidal wetland located in Waipahu on the southwestern coastline of O‘ahu. The site is bounded by Kapakahi Stream on the east and Waikele Stream on the west. The habitat at the Sanctuary includes two ponds, Main Pond and Waikele Pond, divided by a natural mudflat barrier. During the dry season, these ponds, which are critically important for T&E waterbirds, dry up. This project proposes the groundwork and planning necessary to permit and complete work to pump water from the Kapakahi Stream to the ponds during the months when the ponds would otherwise evaporate
