Pia Natural Area Reserve Native Forest Restoration Project
The Pia Natural Area Reserve, established in 2022 to protect rare lowland mesic forests, requires additional funding to restore a heavily degraded habitat that supports several threatened and endangered plant species. The project will establish an A24 rat control grid, install a 55-gallon water catchment, manage invasive plants, reintroduce 500 native plants, and collect propagules for future restoration. Restoration is urgently needed due to landslide damage, ungulate impacts, and the loss of two previously documented endangered species, with helicopter access required to safely and efficiently complete on-site work. These efforts will strengthen watershed health, stabilize soils, and support the long-term survival of species that have no other suitable habitat.
