Olohena ‘ĀINA Center: a resilient Kaua‘i ag park
The Olohena ‘ĀINA Center is an 87-acre agricultural park on Kaua‘i designed to strengthen island food security, restore ʻāina health, and build climate resilience through regenerative agriculture. Developed by nonprofit Mālama Kaua‘i, the project transforms underutilized land into a working landscape of small farms, shared infrastructure, and an educational hub supporting Native Hawaiian, displaced, and beginning farmers. Phase 1 includes a 5-acre baseyard with aggregation, processing, and training facilities, and 20 acres of sublicensed farmland with irrigation, fencing, and renewable energy systems. By creating infrastructure for local food production and stewardship education, the Center reduces dependence on imported food, protects soil and water resources, and provides a living model for sustainable, community-based agriculture that strengthens Kaua‘i’s resilience to climate and supply chain disruptions, while providing voluntourism opportunities for visitors.
