O‘ahu Green Infrastructure Implementation Plan
The Comprehensive Green Stormwater Infrastructure (GSI) Plan for the Island of O‘ahu will enable the City and County of Honolulu to identify, plan, analyze, prioritize and quantify the overall large-scale implementation and maintenance of GSI throughout the island. Island-wide implementation of GSI will reduce erosion, improve drainage and provide water quality benefits within our local streams and beaches, recharge the island’s groundwater supply, mitigate the effects of heat in our urbanized communities by increasing tree canopies, as well as beautifying communities and improving air quality. The City does not have funding available in its current budget to pursue the project. Funding is also being sought from the State Department of Health’s Clean Water State Revolving Funds program to implement portions of this plan; however, funding may not be sufficient to cover the efforts that may be needed for the project.
