O‘ahu Cesspool Conversion Grants

This project seeks funding to expand financial support for household cesspool conversions on O‘ahu. The City and County of Honolulu has allocated $625,000 from its Climate Resiliency Fund to support local cesspool conversions. The City is currently developing contractual agreements to partner with the Department of Health on the implementation of the City's Climate Resiliency Fund allocation with an intent to administer through DOH's established grant pilot program to leverage existing systems to reduce administrative barriers for applicants. Additional funding would allow the program to reach more households, reducing barriers to compliance with the State’s 2050 cesspool conversion mandate. By supporting this program, the project accelerates local action to improve water quality and protect public health.
