North Shore Hazard Mitigation Grant Program

Hale Hālāwai ʻOhana O Hanalei proposes to expand its leadership as a regional grant administrator through a North Shore Hazard Mitigation & Infrastructure Readiness Grant Program, managing projects that reduce disaster risk and strengthen community resilience from Hā‘ena to Anahola. Modeled on the successful North Shore Flood Mitigation Grant, this initiative will oversee subgrants to local organizations focused on flood control, riverbank stabilization, debris management, drainage improvements, and emergency communication systems. Hale Hālāwai will provide fiscal oversight, compliance auditing, field inspections, and standardized progress reporting, ensuring transparent and effective use of funds while empowering smaller nonprofits to deliver measurable outcomes. This program will build local capacity, improve infrastructure readiness, and enhance long-term community safety and sustainability in alignment with the County of Kaua‘i’s Hazard Mitigation and Resilience goals.
