Nature Based Solutions for Disaster Risk Reduction

The project proposed here seeks to address critical needs within the community by enhancing environmental resilience, and community safety through the use of ecosystem based disaster risk reduction strategies. Nature based solutions for disaster risk reduction identify environmental risks created through anthropogenic modifications (such as the importation of pyrophytic vegetation) and seeks to mitigate them through both strategic control, while restoring degraded ecosystems through the re-establishment of the appropriate structure, function and composition of these disaster-prone areas. This program seeks to strategically address the issue of community resilience. Today, large swaths of ecologically degraded and inadequately managed land pose major risks to communities. These risks include fires, erosion, flooding, shoreline inundation, loss of subsistence or cultural resources, and more.
