Mālama Awāwa O Kula

The Kula Community Watershed Alliance (a project of Nā Koa Manu Conservation) is a community-led organization formed as a partnership between fire-affected communities and experienced ecological restoration practitioners to restore the steep gulch that burned in the 2023 Kula Fire. In addition to this critical wildfire recovery work (which has no other agency managing it), KCWA has been requested by neighboring communities to assist in the rehabilitation and restoration of other gulches in Kulaʻs important Waiakoa watershed, in areas at the Wildland Urban Interface, as outlined in the Māʻalaea Bay Watershed Management Plan. With the help of these Green Fees, KCWA is poised to take on this additional watershed restoration work, building on the success of its previous initiatives, making communities near Haleakalā National Park and other Upcountry attractions more resilient to wildfire and flood, improving native ecosystems.
