Leverage Green Fee funds for Climate Resiliency Fund

Leverage State Funds for the City and County of Honolulu's Climate Resiliency Fund to maximize investment against climate impacts. The Climate Resiliency Fund is a generational investment in O‘ahu’s future, supporting high-impact projects and innovative solutions that safeguard communities, natural resources, and infrastructure from climate impacts while advancing sustainability and equity, with the primary goal of building a more resilient, self-reliant, and climate-ready Oʻahu. Leveraging funds, even a nominal amount, from the Green Fee would maximize impact for years to come.

Supporting context: the CRF has disbursed more than $15 million over the past two fiscal years, with requests continuing to increase annually. Nearly half of the City’s expenditures to date have supported municipal-driven resiliency efforts, with opportunities to further expand impact through dedicated funding for environmental conservation, disaster resilience, and sustainable tourism across Hawaiʻi. Because Oʻahu residents make up approximately 69% of the state’s total population, increasing funding for programs that benefit a greater share of residents each year is both strategic and beneficial to both the City and the State for generations to come.
