Keʻanae Uka Mauka-to-Makai stewardship hub facilities

Funding is requested for the Keʻanae Uka Mauka-to-Makai Stewardship and Resource Management Hub, a community-based center supporting environmental stewardship, cultural resource management, watershed protection, Makai Watch activities, visitor education, and community resilience in East Maui. The funding would improve and expand facilities and infrastructure to support community-led conservation programs, volunteer stewardship efforts, loʻi kalo and ʻauwai restoration, native ecosystem restoration, resource monitoring, cultural education, and visitor outreach. Proposed improvements may include rehabilitation of cabins and gathering spaces, restroom and sanitation upgrades, accessibility improvements, outdoor learning areas, equipment storage, safety enhancements, and other infrastructure needed to support stewardship and educational activities. The site supports partnerships among community organizations, cultural practitioners, schools, volunteers, government agencies, and visitors working together to protect natural and cultural resources, strengthening community capacity to mālama ʻāina and mālama kai through a holistic mauka-to-makai approach. The project would advance Green Fee priorities by supporting watershed protection, community stewardship, cultural perpetuation, climate resilience, visitor education, Makai Watch programming, and long-term conservation outcomes that benefit East Maui's lands, waters, and communities.
