Industry-led aquaculture strategy for Hawaii 2030-2035

Develop an Industry-led Aquaculture Strategy for the State of Hawaii to diversify our food system and economy.

Develop an industry-led aquaculture strategy for the State of Hawaii to diversify the food system and economy. The strategy should be stakeholder-led and statewide, with direct and immediate steps for State Agencies, Federal Agencies, NGOs, and Farms to work together towards a common, realistic goal from 2030 to 2035. It should include funding to support a trusted lead industry group serving as project manager between all stakeholder groups. The Hawaii Aquaculture and Aquaponic Association 503C is a longstanding group with diversified aquaculture input across many of Hawaii's aquaculture sectors: Loko Ia, offshore pends/cages, land-based, aquaponics, breeding, technology development, etc. Aquaculture matters because of the revitalization efforts in fish ponds, government agencies expanding aquaculture production and extension, and the push for more seafood by the federal government. The idea follows a recent meeting with Senator Hirono and her staff to discuss this opportunity.
