Home Retrofit Program (Hurricane)

This Project helps create a Home Retrofit Program to reduce the risk of hurricane and high wind damage. This was recommended by the 2024 Climate Advisory Team (following Alabama's Fortified Roof Program) and considered by the 2024 Legislature in HB 1467. The Program has three simultaneous tasks: 1) Conduct a feasibility study to create a modfied fortified roof program that analyzes potential retrofit grants, grant levels, tax credits, insurance premium discounts, and technical sequencing of retrofits; (2) Work with the Hawaiian community to help low income households with an audit of suggested mitigation measures as well as with resilience upgrades such as hurricane clips hardening (Target 1,500 audits - 750 houses improved) and (3) Work with community based organizations to implement multi-hazard mitigation risk reduction measures.
