Hawai‘i Resilience Office

This was recommended by the Climate Advisory Team. Although there is reluctance in increasing the number of State Workers, this could actually save significant money. The Office could actively build partnerships, as one of its major duties, thereby leveraging much of the work. It can more readily work with the participants to monitor their project, ask questions, make suggestions and phase projects so there is orderly & efficient spending. For example, a project is requesting 10 million, but it is not certain if it is for many years or the first year. By allocating that amount in the first year, with the likelihood not all will be spent could exclude many other useful projects. Also, there are many organizations involved in community education and outreach. On O‘ahu there are 15-20 communities in the Cross Island Resilience Network. An office can coordinate this work, and provide mini-grants as leverage to reach the public with target goals and suggested strategies for their work.
