Hawai‘i Island Resilience Hubs
Building small structures across the island(s) to act as “resilience hubs” would be a great first step. On Hawai‘i Island, we could expect something between 10-20 locations at $1-2mn each. These would be community gathering spaces and storage facilities, some could easily double as volunteer fire fighting stations. HFD Chief Kazuo Todd recommended this idea to me personally in a meeting and it is the most practical, highest impact initial use of the fund that will help the most communities that I have heard in my many conversations on this topic.
