Greenway/cycling path from Kapolei to Nanakuli
Build a greenway/cycling path connecting Kapolei to Nanakuli. 50,000 residents on the west side of O’ahu are forced to use automobiles exclusively to get from the west side to the rest of the island. There is enough land to connect Kapolei to Nanakuli with a simple tarmac or concrete greenway. A 10-foot wide path would be low-cost and easy maintenance, and by easing congestion it would decrease carbon emissions and deliver equity for those on the west side. It would also allow west side travelers easier access to the rail stations to further decrease car usage.
This would even pay for itself if the greenway were to connect through Ko Olina, because the tourists could use the greenway to support local businesses on the west side as well. Ideally it would also have a spur to Honokai Hale, since that community is completely locked in to using exclusively cars to move around as well.
