Green Infrastructure in Urban Ko‘olaupoko

Urban areas in Ko‘olaupoko suffer from water quality problems due to high impervious surface coverage, ranging up to nearly sixty percent, which channels polluted runoff directly into streams and coastal waters, adversely affecting marine life. The Ko‘olaupoko Urban Sub-basin Action Plan (USBAP) is a comprehensive, prioritized strategy developed by Hui o Ko‘olaupoko (HOK) to mitigate non-point source (NPS) pollution in the urban areas of Ko‘olaupoko moku (Kāne‘ohe, Kailua, and Waimānalo). The document focuses on implementing Low-Impact Retrofit (LIR) projects and Green Streets to restore a site's pre-development hydrology and address pollutants like Total Phosphorus (TP), Total Nitrogen (TN), and Total Suspended Solids (TSS).
