Green Fee funding for Namahana climate resilience hub
North Shore Climate Resilience Hub at Namahana Public Charter School, Kīlauea, Kauai
Provide $700,000 in Green Fee funding to upgrade Namahana Public Charter School, an 'āina-based public middle and high school in Kīlauea, into a climate resilience and emergency relief hub for Kauaʻi's North Shore. The proposal would convert a public, shovel-ready educational facility into an enduring and critical piece of community infrastructure through a strategic incremental investment. Namahana is a $14 million project with $12 million allocated, inclusive of private, state and federal support. An additional $700,000 (5% of the total project budget) would leverage that investment to create a permanent community resilience asset. Groundbreaking is on December 18, 2026 and construction begins January 4, 2027.
