Ft. DeRussy - Beach

Waikīkī Beach has an estimated value of 2 billion dollars per year in terms of its impact on tourism. Thus, it is important to maintain the beach, when possible, with sand replenishment. There are many problem areas with erosion and a lack of beach such as at Halekulani/Kawehewehe and these areas should be a priority. However, the Ft. DeRussy area should also be given priority as the beach has disappeared. This has led to a dangerous drop-off of over ten feet from the walkway under certain tidal conditions. This area should be looked at because of the potential liability and high visibility of visitors traversing this area.
