Expanding LFA Response Across Oʻahu
Prospective funding will critically strengthen Oʻahu’s capacity—through expanded personnel, equipment, supplies, and infrastructure—to combat the rapidly growing little fire ant (LFA, Wasmannia auropunctata) infestation. We are at a decisive tipping point: without immediate and increased support, complete eradication may soon become impossible. The Oʻahu Invasive Species Committee (OISC) and partners have demonstrated proven success and effective treatment strategies, but the infestation is outpacing available resources. Timely investment now will prevent long-term ecological damage, protect Hawaiʻi’s residents and visitors, and safeguard vital industries such as tourism and agriculture.
