Environmental Stewardship Program CRB & Ecosystem

Hale Halawai proposes to launch a North Shore Environmental Stewardship Grant Program that funds and supports local projects addressing Coconut Rhinoceros Beetle (CRB) control, invasive-species management, and native-ecosystem protection. Building on its proven success administering the $7.285 million North Shore Flood Mitigation Grant, Hale Halawai will serve as the fiscal agent and grant administrator, providing oversight, compliance auditing, and capacity-building support to smaller nonprofits that lack administrative infrastructure. This program will use a transparent and accountable framework for third-party auditing, on-site monitoring, and performance reporting to ensure measurable ecological outcomes and responsible use of funds. By empowering community-based organizations and strengthening cross-sector collaboration, the program will expand local conservation leadership, protect native habitats, and advance long-term environmental resilience across Kaua‘i’s North Shore.
