Coordinated wildfire education and planning support for Hawaiʻi

Provide ongoing, coordinated statewide wildfire prevention, preparedness, risk-reduction education, planning support, and technical assistance in partnership with Hawaiʻi's county and state fire, forestry, and emergency management agencies and other trusted partners.

Support would serve residents and community organizations, government agencies and policymakers, utilities, homeowner and condominium associations, public and private landowners, and others needing credible, locally relevant wildfire information and expertise. Activities could include public education and outreach, subject-matter expertise, technical consultation, partner coordination, and assistance with wildfire planning and incorporating wildfire risk reduction into plans and decisions.

This effort would also help ensure that emerging wildfire science, research, and lessons learned are incorporated into practical, Hawaiʻi-specific information, resources, and technical guidance.

Sustained investment is needed as communities, decision-makers, land managers, and agencies continually face new wildfire-related questions and challenges as development, vegetation, environmental conditions, and available information change.
