City and County Local Food Procurement

Support the recommendation from the CAT of “up to $82.5 million per year, or a five-year budget of $412.5 million, for the removal of invasive plant species on public lands that fuel the risk of wildfires.” Increase in the facilitation of training, and pay to qualified workers could be funded. Support the remediation of the environment with the outplanting of endemic and indigenous species in forestry and agroforestry spaces. Support “managing fuel risk on public lands should also include creating firebreaks and green breaks around isolated communities.” Endemics and indigenous plants could go in these green break spaces. Previously, “the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Readiness and Environmental Integration Program (REPI) is awarding Hawai‘i $7,123,851 for restoration and recovery projects on O‘ahu, Kaua‘i, and Hawai‘i Island.” These were for restoring rare species of plants and animals found only in Hawaiʻi. Efforts to restore native snails could be undertaken.
