Career pathways program for COAST alumni in sustainable tourism

Build on the Kuleana Coral Restoration COAST (Coral Occupational Applications and Scientific Techniques) program, which introduced local participants to diving, coral restoration, and marine conservation, by providing alumni with additional skills and career development opportunities to prepare them for employment in conservation-focused visitor destinations, such as Hanauma Bay, Waikīkī Aquarium, and Sea Life Park. Training could include marine education, reef stewardship, visitor engagement, and responsible ocean recreation practices. By reinvesting in local individuals who have already demonstrated their commitment to conservation, Hawaiʻi can help alumni pursue meaningful careers while supporting environmental education and the protection of the natural resources that sustain its visitor industry.
