Beach Restoration in Kapaʻa and Pōʻipū, Kauaʻi
Kaua‘i’s beaches and dunes provide important protection to the island’s coastal infrastructure, built-environment and coastal communities by absorbing many of the impacts of coastal storms, sea-level rise and other coastal flooding events. This project will develop community beach and dune restoration plans and project designs for nature-based solutions at Kapaʻa and Poʻipū beach parks that mitigate these long-term erosion hazards. These plans will incorporate the best-available data and a robust community engagement process to inform the communities on viable adaptation approaches to prevent future losses to homes, businesses and infrastructure and to preserve historic, cultural and environmental resources.
